Radius map tool

Draw a circle of any radius around an address, or the area you can reach in a set drive time. Share the map with a link or download it.

How it works

How to draw a radius on a map

  1. Find the center

Search an address, a city or a ZIP code, use your current location, type latitude and longitude, or click the map where the circle should start.

  2. Set a radius or a drive time

Type the distance in miles, kilometers, feet, meters or air miles, or switch to Drive time and pick the minutes and whether it's by car, on foot or by bike.

  3. Add more circles

Each search or click adds another shape in its own color. Drag a center to move it, drag the dot on a circle's edge to resize it, or type a new size in the list.

  4. Share or download

Copy the link to share this exact map, download a PNG for slides and emails, KML for Google My Maps and Google Earth, or GeoJSON for GIS software.

Radius or drive time

Two ways to draw how far

A radius: the same distance every way

A straight line from the center in every direction, whatever the roads. A 10 mile radius covers about 314 square miles. Use it for distance-based delivery fees, service areas written into contracts and anything priced or ruled by “within X miles”.

A drive time: how far the roads take you

The area you can reach in a set time, so it stretches along highways and stops at rivers and hills. Use it when what matters is time: a store's trade area, a technician's service area, a commute.

Use cases

What people use a radius map for

Service areas

Show customers which addresses you cover, and set travel fees by distance from your base.

Delivery zones

Draw a 5 mile radius or a 20 minute drive and check which addresses fall inside before you promise delivery.

Sales territories

Give each rep the area within an hour of home, and spot where territories overlap or leave gaps.

Store trade areas

See who lives within 15 minutes of a site before you sign a lease, and compare it with your other stores.

Home and office searches

Find neighborhoods within a commute of work or school, by car, on foot or by bike.

Events and meetups

Pick a venue central to everyone, or show attendees how far they'll travel.

How do I draw a radius on a map?

Search an address or click the map, set the radius in miles or kilometers, and the circle appears around that point. Add as many as you need: each one gets its own color and its area in the list.

Can Google Maps draw a radius?

Google Maps can measure the distance between points, but it has no tool for drawing a circle of a set radius. Draw it here, then download KML and import it into a Google My Maps layer, or open it in Google Earth. Or just share this map's link.

How do I draw a radius from my current location?

Press the location button beside the search box. Your browser asks once for permission, then the circle is drawn around where you are. Your location isn't saved; if you copy the map's link, the link contains it, so share it only with people who may see where you are.

What is a 150 air-mile radius?

It's the distance in the FMCSA's short-haul exception for truck drivers, measured from the driver's normal work reporting location. An air mile is a nautical mile (6,076 feet), so 150 air miles is about 172.6 regular miles. Choose Air miles (DOT) and 150 to draw it.

How big is a 10 mile radius?

A 10 mile radius spans 20 miles across and covers about 314 square miles (π × 10²). A 5 mile radius covers about 79 square miles, and a 25 mile radius about 1,963.

What's the difference between a radius and a drive-time map?

A radius is the same distance in every direction, as the crow flies. A drive-time map (an isochrone) shows where you can get to along real roads in a set number of minutes, so it's longer along highways and shorter where roads are slow or missing.

How accurate are the circles?

Each circle is measured along the Earth's surface from its center, so 10 miles is 10 miles on the ground in every direction. On a flat map that makes very large circles look stretched toward the poles; the distances are still right.

Do drive times include traffic?

No. Drive, walk and bike times are estimated from typical speeds on OpenStreetMap roads, without live traffic, for up to 60 minutes.

Can I save or share my radius map?

Yes. Copy link gives you an address that opens the same circles for anyone: the map is written into the link itself, not saved to an account. You can also download it as a PNG image, as KML for Google My Maps and Google Earth, or as GeoJSON. Address searches and drive-time areas are looked up with Geoapify.

Is the radius map tool free?

Yes, with no sign-up. A map holds up to 25 circles and drive-time areas.

Can I put my locations on a map on my website?

Yes, with Create Mappins. Import your stores, dealers or members from a spreadsheet and publish a map your visitors can search and filter, embedded on your own site. See Excel to map and the sales territory map guide.
